AD: I am completing a short Mechanical Engineering internship working within the client-side PMC (Project Management Consultant) for a major grassroots refinery in Nigeria. ➋ What were your expectations when joining the company? KM: Having in mind that I would be joining a large and complex project, I anticipated a good deal of hard work that would allow me to learn new skills and knowledge. ➌ Why did you want to complete an internship here at OLAX Engineering? KM: As an aspiring chemical engineer, the opportunity to gain hands on industry experience assisting in the building of a multi-billion plant was extremely motivating and exciting and will play role in my future career. ➍ Can you give me an example of your day-to-day activities? KM: I supplement the engineering project team with tasks that are aimed to support review or preparation of key deliverables, and these could be preparing a chemical management philosophy, and evaluating site equipment, etc. ➎ What has been something you have learned in your time here that you will remember throughout your career? AD: I received a crash course into the world of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Section 8 div I + II. Due to the international use of this standard, I am positive this will be play a big part in my career. ➏ What projects have you undertaken here at OLAX? AD: The technology project that I am completing is to investigate commercially available Asset Integrity Frameworks, which can be considered by the client for future implementation. This work allowed me to understand the topic, identify regulations, and critically review current software packages. ➐ During your internship, what new skills have you developed? AD: I had to deliver high-level drawings for the project which tested my use of CAD software. This was good practice and development to a core competency skill for an Engineer. ➑ Describe what would make an effective intern in your eyes? KM: An effective intern would be one who fully commits to ensuring the given tasks and responsibilities are completed and are of good quality before any deadline. ➒ In a few words how would you describe your experience so far? KM: Intriguing, Eye-opening, Informative and Knowledgeable Final question: What advice would you give to future interns who are looking to join OLAX? AD: Be open to seeking advice from colleagues so that activities can be delivered to the highest quality and on time.
